Making a positive impact for children and disadvantaged adults in the Woodland community

'Hands2Heart' WHS Key Club CPR Training

Students of the Woodland High School Key Club received CPR training from Woodland Fire Department personnel during the CPR training day on March 24.

The event, entitled ‘Hands2Heart,’ was organized by the students, in cooperation with Woodland firefighters and Woodland Joint Unified School District, under the sponsorship of the Kiwanis Club of Woodland.

“The students received certification from the American Heart Association for cardio-pulmonary resuscitation,” said firefighter Tara Daniels. “Trained first-responders can play an important lifesaving role, and Woodland Fire Department is happy to be working in partnership with the students, the school district and Kiwanis to benefit the Woodland community.”

During two four-hour training sessions 29 students joined firefighters in the Woodland High library to learn the latest CPR techniques. Students also received training in the use of automated external defibrillator (AED) equipment from Daniels, Woodland Fire Captain Josh Hilliard, and firefighters Nicole Herrera and Miguel Borrego.

According to WHS Key Club President Hollee Anchondo, “We wanted a project organized by high school students for high school students that would benefit the entire community and possibly set the stage for similar events in the future. We are grateful to the Woodland Fire Department and the Kiwanis Club for making it all possible.”
