Kiwanis is a service organization.
We support local community, region, national and international projects.
Kiwanis Local Community:
Woodland Kiwanis sponsors our own community activities including Key Club and Aktion Club. Kiwanis also partners with other local organizations to co-sponsor community activities.
Kiwanis Sponsored Projects:
Key Club is a service club at Pioneer High School which is directly supported by Woodland Kiwanis. Objectives include developing leadership skills and providing services to members of our community. Key Club built a float for the 2007 Woodland Holiday Parade and won 1st place in their division.
Aktion Club serves developmentally delayed adults in Woodland. Aktion Club continues to serve many deserving participants each year. Recent activities include bell ringing for the Salvation Army Holidays donations and participation in the Walkathon the benefit the Meals on Wheels program.
Kiwanis Co-Sponsored Projects:
Ferns Park – Woodland Kiwanis served youth recreation during the re-construction of the Ferns Park Playground. Many community groups united in November 2007 to re-build equipment that had been vandalized earlier in the year. Woodland Kiwanis provided our Bar-B-Que Wagon and served over 900 lunches to volunteer workers on November 1-4, 2007.
Senior Meals – Woodland Kiwanis serves senior citizens, by delivering meals prepared daily for the Elderly Nutrition Program in Yolo County aka Meals-on-Wheels every Friday. During 2007, we delivered over 600 meals to homebound seniors.
Stroll Through History - Woodland Kiwanis supports community history awareness and youth programs by serving meals at the Woodland’s Annual Stroll Through History each September. Woodland Kiwanis partners with Douglas Junior High, using our Kiwanis Bar-B-Que Wagon to serve breakfast and lunches to event goers. Douglas Staff and Woodland Kiwanians raised funds to help support the activities at the Douglas Junior High Music Department.
Salvation Army Bell Ringing - Woodland Kiwanis serves the homeless, and drug and alcohol abuse community by Bell Ringing for the Salvation Army. In 2007, Woodland Kiwanis members rang at Bel-Air Supermarket for over 80 hours on Fridays and Saturdays, raising over $5400 for the Salvation Army.
Kiwanis Regional Projects:
Kiwanis Family House – The Kiwanis Family House provides low or no-cost temporary housing for families of sick and injured children who are hospitalized at the UCD Medical Center. No family members are turned away due to their inability to pay. Woodland Kiwanis partners with other Kiwanis Clubs in our Region to provide funding and staffing for the Kiwanis Family House located on the grounds of the UCD Medical Center. Club members man a snack bar at Sacramento Kings home games with a percentage of the proceeds going to support the Kiwanis Family House .
